THE WILLIAM J JERNICK MEMORIAL FUND
Children under the age of 21, facing illness, injury or disease are eligible to receive one-time, monetary grants upon application and approval by the Board of Directors. Grants are given freely and without obligation for repayment at any time. Special consideration is given to applicants that have no insurance or other means to help themselves financially. The Board of Directors allocates earnings for distribution among the five districts within the State Association and to support camping for children with special needs at Elks Camp Barrett. Through your generous donations, we have been able to help many, many children and their families over the past 25 years.
THE ELKS NATIONAL FOUNDATION
The mission of the ENF is to help Elks build stronger communities. We help youth develop lifelong skills, send students to college, meet the needs of today's veterans, support the charitable work of the state Elks associations, and fund projects that improve the quality of life in local Elks communities. Since inception, the ENF has contributed $455.4 million toward Elks charitable projects nationwide. These funds enable programs that support youth, honor veterans, and meet needs in areas where Elks live and work. Community Investments Program grants offer Lodges an opportunity to serve their community in ways that will raise the Lodge’s profile, energize the membership, encourage former members to return to the fold, and gain the notice of people who want to be part of an organization that’s doing great things. Today we boast more than 100,000 active donors and an endowment fund valued at $622.9 million.
FLAG DAY
Patriotism has characterized the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks of the United States of America since the early days of the organization. Allegiance to the flag of our country is a requirement of every member. In 1907, the Grand Lodge of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks designated, by resolution, June 14 as Flag Day. The Grand Lodge of the Order adopted mandatory observance of the occasion by every Lodge in 1911, and that requirement continues. In 1949 President Harry Truman, himself a member of the Elks, made the proclamation that thereafter June 14 would be a day of national observance for the symbol of our country. It was through his Elks Lodge in Independence, Missouri, that President Truman got the idea for a national observance of Flag Day.
MONTHLY SPECIAL EVENTS
The Lodge offers a number of monthly events for the benefit of our members. These events foster camaraderie, friendship and the establishment of lasting relationships among our members. More importantly, these events enable us to raise money to support our charitable endeavors. Members are encouraged to support our weekly Bingo, our Friday and Sunday "Antlers Up" games, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday lunches, "Steak Nite", Karaoke and Cheese Steak Nite and other special events.
HOOP SHOOT
One of the most popular youth activities in our Lodge is participation in the Elks National Hoop Shoot Competition. Boys and girls, ages 8 through 13 take on the challenge of making the most free throws in competition with others in their age group. Prizes are provided to each participant with winners advancing to district, state and regional competitions. Our program centers round the annual local contest in January where many volunteers from the Lodge work to make our Lodge competition a success.
THURSDAY NIGHT BINGO
A major fund raiser for our Lodge is our weekly Thursday Night Bingo. Our bingo is a popular event in the community and attracts 75 to 100 participants, who enjoy competing for cash prizes. As one of our most volunteer intensive activities, the Lodge relies on over 50 volunteers giving 3 hours a month of their time to work in the "snack bar" or processing player payments or working the floor while the games are played. We are proud of the many compliments we receive on the professionalism of our callers, the friendliness of our volunteers and the quality of our kitchen menu. Doors open each Thursday at 5PM, with the first game starting at 7PM.
